This year marks the tenth anniversary of Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark Supreme Court case that granted same-sex couples the right to marry across the United States. Over the past decade, public support for LGBTQ+ people and marriage equality has grown significantly. So much progress has been made over the past ten years and yet there is still much more work to do in the battle for equality for the LGBTQ+ community. This program will provide an overview of the history and path to marriage equality and the Obergefell case. The panelists will discuss their experiences prior to Obergefell, its impact over the last decade in advancing the civil rights of LGBTQ+ people, and the ever-evolving role of law in society.
